Film and TV industry essay
The television industry get its money from different sources
for example BBC gets its money from the television licence fee, sky gets its
money from a monthly subscription fee and some channels get there money from
advertisements Sky is a subscription based digital television box that is
connected to the Internet used to watch a variety of channels, you can have a
variety of packages that can be entertainment, kids, sports and movies. For the
first six months of the subscription the price is ten pounds and then twenty
pounds after that.
There are also sponsors and advertisements, sponsors pay a
show to show their product before the show starts, before the break starts,
before the break finishes and after the show ends. Advertisements are a little
different they would pay a show to provide a slot for the break so that there
product may be shown unlike the fixed slot for a sponsor ads can be shown at
any point in the ad break depending on the slot provided.
There is a variety of TV channels around the world and the
few channel aloud in to the country are called international television such as
the British localization of fox known as FX which has all the shows that fox
has and the British localization of HBO run by sky called sky Atlantic which
has show from HBO.
There is also national television which is all channels made
in you country like mine is England so we have BBC, ITV, channel 4 and channel
5 each of these have some unique British made shows and some also have the
localization of American shows.
And finally there is local television which are channels
based in your main area of living like mine is the midlands specifically
Burton-upon-Trent which doesn’t have many local channels but there is the
midlands variation of BBC news called BBC midlands, there is also the Burton TV
news which is filmed and then put on to the web.
I would now like to talk about cross-media which are
different places of the media ran by the same companies like the BBC runs TV,
radio and online. . BBC uses the money from the TV licence to pay for their
channels, radio and online services. 66% of the money goes to running their
channels, 17% goes to running there radio station, 6% goes to online services
and 11% goes to other costs such as digital. The fox network also does
cross-media as the producer TV shows and films for 20th century fox.
EM media is a group that is based in Nottingham they are a
development agency, which has co-financed some films and video games and have
created 100 short films and have 45 active film projects. They have co-financed
42 films which have achieved many awards, and have co-financed 9 video games.
The British film council works with some partners to
produces imaginative films. They advertise their films at many international film
festivals. They help filmmakers in the UK get into film festivals they, also
provide directories for international film festivals.
Film 4 is a production company that produces and co-finances
film productions. Film 4 announces to The Guardian “Film4, the British film studio behind The Inbetweeners Movie, has
announced the creation of a £1m film fund to develop comedy movies”. In 2011
film 4 released 11 films one was The Inbetweeners Movie and another is Tyrannosaur.
