Film and Television Industry Essay

Film and TV industry essay
The television industry get its money from different sources for example BBC gets its money from the television licence fee, sky gets its money from a monthly subscription fee and some channels get there money from advertisements Sky is a subscription based digital television box that is connected to the Internet used to watch a variety of channels, you can have a variety of packages that can be entertainment, kids, sports and movies. For the first six months of the subscription the price is ten pounds and then twenty pounds after that.

There are also sponsors and advertisements, sponsors pay a show to show their product before the show starts, before the break starts, before the break finishes and after the show ends. Advertisements are a little different they would pay a show to provide a slot for the break so that there product may be shown unlike the fixed slot for a sponsor ads can be shown at any point in the ad break depending on the slot provided.
There is a variety of TV channels around the world and the few channel aloud in to the country are called international television such as the British localization of fox known as FX which has all the shows that fox has and the British localization of HBO run by sky called sky Atlantic which has show from HBO.
There is also national television which is all channels made in you country like mine is England so we have BBC, ITV, channel 4 and channel 5 each of these have some unique British made shows and some also have the localization of American shows.

And finally there is local television which are channels based in your main area of living like mine is the midlands specifically Burton-upon-Trent which doesn’t have many local channels but there is the midlands variation of BBC news called BBC midlands, there is also the Burton TV news which is filmed and then put on to the web.

I would now like to talk about cross-media which are different places of the media ran by the same companies like the BBC runs TV, radio and online. . BBC uses the money from the TV licence to pay for their channels, radio and online services. 66% of the money goes to running their channels, 17% goes to running there radio station, 6% goes to online services and 11% goes to other costs such as digital. The fox network also does cross-media as the producer TV shows and films for 20th century fox.

EM media is a group that is based in Nottingham they are a development agency, which has co-financed some films and video games and have created 100 short films and have 45 active film projects. They have co-financed 42 films which have achieved many awards, and have co-financed 9 video games.

The British film council works with some partners to produces imaginative films. They advertise their films at many international film festivals. They help filmmakers in the UK get into film festivals they, also provide directories for international film festivals.

Film 4 is a production company that produces and co-finances film productions. Film 4 announces to The Guardian  Film4, the British film studio behind The Inbetweeners Movie, has announced the creation of a £1m film fund to develop comedy movies”.  In 2011 film 4 released 11 films one was The Inbetweeners Movie and another is Tyrannosaur. In 2012 so far they have released 3 films one being the Iron lady about Margaret Thatcher.

Job roles in Graphic design

Job Role In Graphic Design
There are many types jobs in Graphic Design which are freelance which is working either on there own or being hired for a company for a limited time, also working for an agency which is a group of professional Graphic Designers that work together to create a graphic for there client they may hire a freelance designer if they are behind schedule in the agency there are more are available which are Graphic Designer, technician, management and marketing.

Graphic Designer focus on getting their clients message across by high visual impact, it requires a keen business sense and creative flair. In the job of a Graphic Designer you should be expected to provide designs for your client for his chosen area for example if he wanted to create a webpage and need someone to design the home page and the logo for the site he well call upon the aid of a Graphic Designer. They are expected to be able to design a webpage, packaging, magazines, and logos.

Apart from rough sketches most Graphic Designers work on the computer with special programs like the adobe programs like illustrator. Designers may work with their client directly or if they work in an agency they would more then likely have an account manager to contact them.In the creative portion of the freelance side of the job you must come up with idea and concepts to show your client or a friend to get constructive criticism were as in an agency you would ask your team and client what they thought of the concepts and ideas generated.

If in the job you work freelance you must have a knowledge of computers to help with the creation of a project on a creation system like adobe illustrator and make sure it is up to date, but if you work for an agency they would have a technician to make sure the computer are up to date and to make sure that the program is up date. But you will still have to be able to create on a computer. As a technician you are expected to have an experienced knowledge of computers to fix any problems that may happen to the software to create the designs and/or the computer. The problem might not always be the computers software that goes wrong it might actually be the computers components so it does not help to only be educated in computer software but to be educated in all computers including the components.

In Graphic Design agencies they have an account manager which help the team by keeping contact with the client and picking the jobs they do for the amount of time need for the deadline of the project they would even hire the freelance graphic designer if need be to reach the deadline.

In a graphic design agency there would be a member, which focuses on marketing and advertising the company to acquire business. The advertiser would spend most of his time writing business cards and marketing the company by giving examples to the company’s work.

Evaluation for final film

For the final film of the unit we did a photo essay. For the project I had chosen to do a story about something that had happened to me inside a computer game. The reasoning behind this is because I am a big gaming fanatic and I thought for at least one of my projects could have been based around one of my favorite computer game. I started the photo essay on monday 11:00 am till 8:00 pm during this time I captured 60 photos. I captured this many photos because I had a bad camera so quite a few of the shots were rather blurred. My weakness during the shoot was taking photos since the camera i was using was bad at actually taking picture and projecting my voice clearly when talking . The editing for the project went quite smoothly The reason I edited in the way that I did was because it fit with the story that I told E.G The photo of the dragon burning me and killing me I state "that he is burning everything and he killed instantly". During the screening I did receive some constructive criticism for the project one such being that i have to speak louder and clearly, wright a script, some say that the voice over I did was a good concept it just needed to be more clear were as other said it was a bad idea though other said and i agree that without the voice over it would be unclear what is happening and finally people said that the images were good but blurred if they were much more clear the video would look so much better.

lord of the rings evaluation practice

Stars with black screen and narration then classical orchestral music begins as the title fades in then fades out to a scene with narration of one of the character we learn about later on she talks about the creation of the great rings and how they were forged. The narrator states that 3 of the rings were gifted to the elves “immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings” there was a close up shot of the three elves hands with the rings which zooms to a mid shot to show the face of a young beautiful woman to keep her statement true the lighting in this shot is bright and radiant to make them seem mystical and almost angelic creatures. The narrator continues on to say that seven rings were given to the dwarf lords “great miners and craftsman of the mountain halls” the camera stars with a close up of all seven rings then does a close up pan shot of the dwarfs with the rings in there hands the faces of the dwarfs are clear but the rings are blurred by there facial expressions we can tell that the dwarfs are admiring the rings. The camera then cuts to a long shot of the dwarfs holding the rings in the air the lighting in the dwarf shots is dark and dirty to show that they are underground men the only light shown in the shots are the candles. The narrator then states that “nine rings were given to the race of men who above all else desire power” the camera for this shot is a zoom shot which starts with a medium shot which moves out to a long shot then fades out.
